Columbia Council addresses ride-sharing service

Columbia City Council will meet Monday night to vote on two ride-sharing issues.

The first ride-sharing bill related to Uber would amend the city code to add a new article pertaining to transportation network services.

The second would amend the city code relating to taxi cab businesses and taxi stand hours.

Staff has been reviewing how Uber has been operating in other cities, and how to incorporate it into the city’s code without putting traditional taxi cab companies at a competitive disadvantage.

The first would establish permit fees to be paid for each Uber operator that has been approved to do business in Columbia.
