Columbia city website goes down after another attack

The City of Columbia website was experiencing outages Thursday after the city information technology staff was alerted to an attack against the website, gocolumbiamo.com.

The IT team was calling the attack a DDOS, or Distributed Denial of Services attack designed to make the site unavailable by flooding the site with requests from several sources.

This type of attack doesn’t normally result in a loss of information or cause a security breach.

City IT staff worked with several government agencies and the city’s providers to solve the problem.

Deputy City Manager Tony St. Romaine told ABC 17 News the city does not yet know who or what entity got into the system.
