Gas prices jump more than 20 cents in one day
If you filled up your car today, you probably got a bit of sticker shock at the pump.
Gas prices rose more than 20 cents per gallon just since Thursday morning.
Gas prices were around $1.65 at most places in Columbia and $1.73 in Jefferson City earlier Thursday, and around 2 in the afternoon, they jumped up to around $1.89.
Patrick Dehaan is a Petroleum Analyst for Gasbuddy.com. He said the price hike is all about the markets.
“The price of crude oil jumped from $3 per barrel yesterday and wholesale gas spiked $.10 per gallon yesterday, so they [stations] may have raised their price from the big spike they saw,” Dehaan said.
People at Quik Trip on Clark Lane said they were surprised to see the price increase so quickly, but they were still happy it was under $2 per gallon.
“A dollar eighty-nine is still better than it was six months ago, so I’ll appreciate it while I can,” customer Jaeden Hummel said.
“I go a lot further when it’s cheaper so I love it!” customer Molly Magnuson agreed.
And experts said the price may go down again just as quickly as it went up.
“I think over the next few days stations will drop their prices fairly quickly,” Dehaan said.
