Jefferson City Police release holiday DWI numbers

The Jefferson City Police Department has released the number of people of people caught driving drunk around the holidays.

It was part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign that ran from December 12 to January 1.

During that period, Jefferson City Police issued 565 citations, and 16 of them were for people driving while intoxicated.

More than 100 people were ticketed for speeding, having no insurance, and several other violations such as not having proper registration.

Last year, 223 people were killed on Missouri roads in crashes involving drunk drivers. That’s about one death every 1.5 days.
