Tow truck driver robbed, stabbed, left unconscious after stopping to help driver on I-70

Columbia police said a tow truck driver was robbed and stabbed along I-70 as he tried to help a car on the side of the road.

Police told ABC 17 News the driver saw a car on westbound I-70, pulled over, and stopped to help.

But when he got up to the car, both the passenger and driver jumped out and stabbed the tow truck driver.

The tow truck driver was left unconscious on the side of the interstate after the attack. Police said he woke up, got back in his car, and got off on the Lake of the Woods exit to call for help.

His injuries are not life-threatening, but he spent most of the night in the hospital.

ABC 17 News and officers at the scene heard what sounded like shots fired a few blocks away on Demaret Drive, but the street was clear at 6:45 p.m.
