Preventing hackers, terror threats in the U.S.

After Islamic radicals killed more than a dozen people in France and hackers target U.S. military sites, ABC 17 reached out to an expert about what you can do to prevent further incidents here at home.

ABC 17 sat down with Cole County Sheriff Greg White, who actively follows several hate groups.

White said even though incidents often happen overseas, their networks can stretch across several countries.

If you see something strange, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

“Report to your sheriff’s office, your police department, the FBI, report it to someone. It may be nothing, but it may be something. And as you know, Bin Laden used cell phones, or satellite phones that were obtained in Columbia. We’ve had people photographing buses in rural Iowa, and for what purpose?” said White.

White also said it’s important to be careful what you post online. Details you wouldn’t normally share in everyday conversations are often used by terror suspects.
