One killed in Wednesday morning Columbia crash

One person was killed Wednesday morning after a driver lost control and was hit by a garbage truck.

33-year-old Virgil Elliott was killed when he began to fishtail driving north on Paris Road and crossed the center line into the path of a City of Columbia garbage truck.

The driver of the garbage truck was unable to avoid Elliott’s car and hit him.

Elliott was extracted from the car and taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Weather is believed to be a factor in the crash.
