Employees walk out of Columbia daycare after not getting paid

Tensions are high at a daycare in north Columbia where Tuesday afternoon, where employees were told they may not get paid at the first of the month.

Many of them walked off the job at Playground Daycare.

Employees said there were still children inside Tuesday afternoon around 5:00.

While several of the workers walked out after hearing the news, they said the owner was inside with the kids.

The employees who were enraged when they learned they weren’t going to get paid immediately called parents to come get their kids.

Parents and employees have been aware of the financial situation because a letter did go out saying they would be closing in December.

Workers are angry because many still need paychecks for seven weeks.

About 50 children attend Playground Daycare, and 10 employees work there.

Many said they will not be coming back on Wednesday, so parents may need to make arrangements before dropping their child off Wednesday.

The daycare is set to close on December 5.
