Accused sex offender back in court

A man charged with sodomizing a 14-year-old boy was back in Cole County Court on Wednesday. In July, the Cole County prosecutor filed a grand jury indictment charging Thomas McAdams with three counts of statutory sodomy, but ABC 17 has learned McAdams faces a new charge.

The Cole County prosecuting attorney, Mark Richardson, filed another indictment to include a fourth charge. “The defendant, Thomas McAdams, was indicted by the grand jury on a supercedes indictment that included two counts of statutory sodomy in the first degree, one count of statutory sodomy in the second degree and and one count of recklessly exposing another to HIV,” said Richardson.

McAdams is out on a $250,000 bond. He’s wearing an ankle tracking device. His charges could bring him anywhere from five years to life in prison. McAdams will be back in Cole County Court in early February. That’s when his trial date could be set.
