Man posing as Boone Co. Juvenile Officer steals from elderly man

A man claiming to be a deputy Boone Co. Juvenile Officer apparently stole cash from an 80-year-old man Wednesday afternoon.

The man told Boone County deputies he allowed the man into his home in the 1400 block of Prathersville Road.

The man told deputies the impostor came to the door and identified himself as “Mike Smith.” The suspect told the man he was looking for a juvenile the man didn’t know and asked to use the bathroom.

After the suspect left, the man noticed an envelope with cash inside was missing.

The victim said the suspect was a 5’10” white man weighing about 300 pounds.

Deputies contacted the Juvenile Office and learned no one named Mike Smith was employed there, and no one from the agency had been to the man’s house Wednesday.

Deputies urge people to confirm credentials and show identification to anyone they allow in their home.
