Dogs Deserve Better of Missouri hosts fundraiser

Saturday, dozens attended the Dogs Deserve Better of Missouri fundraiser and adoption event at Macadoodles in Columbia.

Dogs Deserve Better is a dog rescue organization that helps chained and penned dogs.

The fundraiser included a wine tasting, silent auction, live music and food.

The organization says at least one dog was adopted at the event today. And several applications for adoptions were turned in.

Melody Whitworth with Dogs Deserve Better of Missouri says the shelter has been very busy with the recent cold weather.

Melody Whitworth, Dogs Deserve Better of Missouri: “We have over 20 dogs in foster care at the moment. And of course when the weather changes, the calls start coming in, the emails and the calls start coming in. People really start reporting dogs that are in bad situations out on chains and in pens the minute the weather gets cold. So we’ve been very very busy bringing more dogs in.”

Whitworth says 100 percent of the proceeds from the wine tasting event will go to the organization to help the dogs.
