Permits suspended at Smithton meat processing plant

A Smithton meat processing plant was inspected Friday and was found to have sanitation issues, halting custom exempt processing operations.

The Missouri Department of Agriculture’s Meat and Poultry Inspection Program found sanitation problems with meat processing equipment at PBR Custom Meat Processing.

PBR’s permits will be suspended until a new inspection is satisfactory, which will be done at PBR’s request.

Plants operating under a custom processing exemption such as PBR are not allowed to sell those products to the public.

That type of processing is done for livestock owners for their own consumption and packaging for all custom products marked “not for sale.”

Those who have done business with PBR recently should inspect all items carefully before consuming.
