Jefferson City man arrested after Steak & Shake assault

A Jefferson City man was arrested after seriously injuring a man early Saturday morning.

Jefferson City Police responded to the Steak & Shake on Missouri Blvd. around 2:00 a.m. Saturday where they found a 44-year-old man lying on the ground with blood coming from his head.

The victim was taken to Capital Region Hospital then eventually to Columbia for 2 fractures to his skull.

24-year-old Ryan Kelly was arrested for 1st degree assault and taken to the Cole County Jail pending formal charges.

Captain Doug Shoemaker with the Jefferson City Police said he doesn’t think crime at the restaurant is becoming a trend.

“It’s the only restaurant that’s open at that time of night, or at least a sit down style restaurant,” said Shoemaker.

Shoemaker said they are patrolling the area more heavily in hopes it will prevent another situation like this one from happening.

Jefferson City Police are continuing to interview witnesses in the incident.
