Private autopsy shows Michael Brown was shot at least six times

A preliminary, private autopsy shows Michael Brown, the unarmed teenager shot to death by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo. August 9, was shot at least six times. The report shows two of those bullets hit Brown in the head.

According to a New York Times report, one of the bullets entered the top of Brown’s skull, suggesting his head was bent forward when it struck and killed him.

The Times report is based on an autopsy done by Dr. Michael Baden, the former chief medical examiner of New York City. He was flown to Missouri on Sunday at the family’s request.

The autopsy also revealed Brown didn’t appear to be shot at close range because there was no gunpowder on his body. However, Dr. Baden did not have access to Brown’s clothes, so that determination could change based on if gunpowder is on the clothes.

On Sunday, Attorney General Eric Holder ordered a federal autopsy be done in the case. That will be done independently of Baden’s autopsy.
