Man arrested for robbing store, threatening employees

Columbia police arrested a Kansas City man on suspicion of trying to rob the Dollar General store on Vandiver Drive.

Officers were called to the store shortly before 9 p.m. Monday for reports of a strong arm robbery. According to their investigation, Gregory Renfro, 32, was at the store with two children, ages 5 and 6. At some point, Renfro allegedly started knocking over displays and shelves and threatened two female workers with assault and rape.

Police say Renfro then announced he was robbing the store, demanded cash, and tried to get into the safe and cash registers. Officers arrived and arrested him a short time later. No one was hurt during the robbery. Police say they believe Renfro was under the influence of PCP at the time.

Renfro was arrested for endangering the welfare of a child, property damage, sexual misconduct and robbery.
