Tracking rounds of storms, flooding potential

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy to mostly clear with lows in the upper 60s to around 70.

TOMORROW: Showers and storms likely in the morning. Some could bring heavy rain and gusty winds. Dry during the day with highs in the upper 80s to around 90. Heat index between 92-94 degrees.

EXTENDED: A complex of thunderstorms is expected to develop to our northwest tonight, moving into Mid-Missouri as it loses strength by early Thursday morning. Showers and storms are expected for the morning commute, with heavy rain possible through about midday. We'll clear out for the afternoon, giving the atmosphere a chance to recover and warm back into the upper 80s. By sunset, another round of storms develops across northern Missouri ahead of a cold front that will work in by Friday. This second round has the potential to become severe quickly with the threat of damaging winds, 1" hail, isolated tornadoes, and flash flooding. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from Thursday afternoon through Friday morning for the potential of 2-4" of rain. Storms will move into areas north of I-70 after 7:00 PM then slide south overnight. The severe threat will diminish by morning, but leftover rain is likely for the Friday morning commute. We have plenty of time for storms to move out on Friday and temperatures to soar into the low 90s. Heat indices climb into the upper 90s to low 100s in the afternoon, with another round of strong storms possible Friday night near the front. The cold front stalls out across Mid-Missouri through the weekend into early next week, giving us a daily chance of rain and storms. Rain totals through early next week will be in the 2-5"+ range with temperatures cooling into the low to mid-80s through the weekend into next week.
