Battle pushes the reset button through summer workouts

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Battle football team started summer workouts with a clean slate, which included a slew of new coaches and players.

Head coach Atiyyah Ellison said it is good to hit the reset button at the end of each season.

"You don't want the kids to focus on their past accomplishments and think they don't have to work hard," he said. "We're all starting at zero right now."

In 2020, the Spartans made it to the state quarterfinals, ending with an 8-2 overall record. Ellison said he wants his team to continue taking steps towards making it to the ultimate goal: the state championship.

"The stuff that we're doing now, setting the ground work, refreshing everything and teaching them like they are brand new players, you know, makes that foundation harder and stronger to push off of later when we ned it at the end of the season," he said.

Battle is set to open up the 2022 season on August 27 against Fort Zumwalt North.
