22 more arrests made in drug raid

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F and Mustang Drug Task Force continued a drug round up Wednesday that yielded more drug-related arrests in Callaway County.

On Tuesday, members of the MSHP, Cole County Sheriff’s Department, Jefferson City Police, and Columbia police arrested 20 people for drug-related crimes including the possession of heroin, meth, crack cocaine, cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, ecstacy, and marijuana.

On Wednesday, members of the Fulton Police Department, Callaway County Sheriff’s Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Department, and Boonville Police joined the round-up, netting 22 more suspected drug dealers.

The arrests were for heroin, meth, crack cocaine, marijuana, and prescription pills.

Callaway County Detective Sgt. Shannon Jeffries was part of the team involved in the roundups.

He said the investigations into each person arrested took 1-3 years, and the planning for the arrest operation took another several months. But despite the lengthy process, Jeffries said roundups are worth it.

“It’s a big impact when they’re arresting 40 people versus four,” he said.

Jeffries explained the whole process starts with a simple phone.

“It’s usually a citizen complaint that starts it,” he said. “That or a Crime Stoppers tip. Then we go investigate the area.”

Undercover officers will purchase drugs from suspected dealers several times. Then, they’ll plan the arrest.

Jeffries said this roundup went smoothly, despite some of the dealers being involved together.

“The majority of them were involved in some kind of organization. When you’re going to arrest one, you’ve got to do the others at the same time because word gets out fast,” he said.
