Fire damages garage of Columbia home

A fire did more than $200,000 in damage to the garage of a Columbia home Tuesday night.

The fire started shortly after 8 p.m. at the home on Beech Cove Court. Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the building when they arrived. They were able to get the fire contained within twenty minutes.

According to crews on scene, the three-car garage was gutted, but the fire didn’t spread to the residential part of the home. Smoke did spread through the house but didn’t cause any major damage.

No one was home at the time of the fire, which did an estimated $215,000 in damage. The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
