COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 31-year-old Columbia man was speeding on his motorcycle when he died in a head-on crash Tuesday on Old Plank Road, the Boone County Sheriff's Office said.

Austin Sweet was pronounced dead at the scene after his speeding Suzuki motorcycle collided head-on with an SUV on Old Plank Road near Route K in south Columbia, the sheriff's office said in a news release. The SUV was turning left into a convenience store parking lot when the crash happened, authorities said.

Three people in the SUV were not hurt, though both vehicles had to be towed from the scene, the sheriff's office said. Sweet was wearing a helmet.
