I70 Drive NW in Columbia back open after crash

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Northwest Interstate 70 Dr. at Garden Dr. in Columbia is back open after it was closed due to a crash.

The road reopened around 7:50 a.m.

ABC 17 News at the scene saw four Columbia Fire Department trucks, an MU Health Care Ambulance, two tow trucks and two Columbia Police Department patrol cars at the scene of a crash involving two vehicles.

Columbia Fire Captain Wayne Cummins told ABC 17 News on scene that three patients were involved in the crash and were taken from the scene in ambulances. There's no word on the extent of their injuries at this time.

One of the occupants was trapped inside one of the vehicles when crews arrived. They were able to remove the patient quickly and get them to an ambulance, according to Cummins.

A back car was seen being towed away from the scene. Firefighters were seen putting hoses away back into one of the fire trucks just after 7:30 a.m.

The crash was first reported at 7:08 a.m., according to a Boone County Joint Communications alert.

Another update was sent at 7:23 a.m., saying the I-70 Dr. NW is closed because of the crash and drivers are asked to find a different route.
