Tracking isolated storms next few days, heat builds by late week

TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy with storms diminishing after sunset. Lows in the mid-upper 60s.

TOMORROW: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated to scattered showers and storms in the afternoon. A few storms could produce heavy rain. Highs in the mid-80s.

EXTENDED: Low pressure finally gets shoved east Wednesday into Thursday, bringing rain chances down and increasing temperatures as high pressure works in over the Midwest. We can't rule out a pop up storm or two, but the story for the end of the week will be the heat. If we reach 90 by Thursday it will be our first 90+ day since September 7, 2020 in Columbia. With rising dew points, we are going to have to keep an eye on the heat index Thursday and Friday. With highs in the 90s and dew points reaching the upper 60s, we could see a heat index between 95-97 on Thursday, and flirting with 100 degrees on Friday, potentially prompting the need for a heat-related Weather Alert Day. A front works in by Saturday, cooling temperatures a touch, but we still manage to make it to the upper 80s. The weekend is generally looking dry outside of a pop up storm or two.
