Council to vote on more development, hear petition report

The Columbia City Council will meet Monday night to first read the Opus DevelopmentAgreement and hear a report on the Opus Repeal Petition.

That bill would authorize an amended and restated agreement with Opus Development Company relating to property on north Locust Street between 7th and 8th streets.

The new agreement eliminates the prior apartment units on the ground floor along 8th Street and replaces them with active living space for tenants.

The Council will hear a report about certification related to the petition to repeal the “improperly enacted downtown downtown development bill” that has not been signed by a sufficient number of Columbia registered voters.

The referendum petition can be amended at any time within 14 days after notification of insufficiency by filing a supplemental petition.

The Council is also scheduled to vote Monday night on the Lofts on Broadway proposal.

That bill authorizes a right-of-use permit with BMT of Columbia for installation, construction, improvement, repair, and maintenance of PVC sewer force main to extend in parts of an alley located north of Broadway between 10th and Short streets.

It also allows for installation of private storm sewers in 10th & E. Broadway.

The Lofts on Broadway is planned as a 5-story mixed-use building consisting of retail space on the first floor and 4 floors of apartments with a maximum of 36 beds.
