2014 State Basketball Recap: Hickman, Rock Bridge, Helias
Mizzou Arena saw a show on Saturday with three area teams playing in state tournament games.
Rock Bridge girls basketball earns its third straight state title with a 62-45 victory of Lee’s Summit North. Mizzou commit Sophie Cunningham lead the way with 23 points as the Bruins got a fast start in the first quarter and never looked back. This is the fourth overall state championship for the program.
Hickman boys basketball dropped a heartbreaker to CBC in overtime on Saturday. The Cadets beat the Kewpies 86-77. After falling behind most of the game, the Kewpies sent the game into OT thanks to a 29-17 fourth quarter run. Jimmy Whitt had 29 points, as the Mizzou recruit will be the top returning player for Hickman next season.
Meanwhile, the Helias Crusaders ended their season with a win. Helias beat Farmington 60-53 in overtime of the third place game. The Crusaders played an entire game’s worth of overtime (four periods) over the weekend between the third place game and a three overtime loss in the semifinals. Isiah Sykes lead the Crusaders with 16 points in the win over Farmington.
