Columbia Deputy Superintendent announces retirement

Columbia Public Schools Deputy Superintendent Nick Boren announced his retirement Friday after 7 years with the district.

“It has been my distinct privilege to serve the students, faculty, staff, and parents of this school district,” said Boren.

Boren’s career in education has spanned 29 years. He previously served as superintendent at South Callaway R- II Schools before coming to Columbia Public Schools in 2007. Boren had also served an assistant superintendent, director of transportation, technology coordinator, agricultural education teacher, and FFA advisor in that district.

Under Boren’s leadership, the school district developed a long-range facilities plan and constructed nearly $250 million worth of school improvements.

Boren also oversaw the implementation of several safety measures and the transition to a 3-tier bell schedule that has positively impacted student transportation services for the district.

Boren will retire on June 30th.
