High speed chase ends with Pulaski County standoff

A high speed chase through multiple counties ended early Sunday morning with a two hour standoff near Waynesville.

Donald Heckman, 47, was arrested early Sunday after deputies used a Taser to stun him and wrestle him to the ground on Red Oak Lane, just north of Interstate 44.

Pulaski County Sheriff Ron Long said in a news release the Kansas City-area man reached speeds of up to 135 miles per hour through three counties on the interstate.

The chase started after midnight in Webster County when a truck driver reported a man in a Dodge pickup truck pointed a pistol at him.

Laclede County deputies spotted Heckman on Interstate 44 and tried to pull him over. Heckman did not stop until a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper blew out his tired near South 17 and Highway NN.

According to deputies, Heckman made it one mile farther before pulling two pistols and threatening to harm himself. A trooper and Laclede County deputy suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Heckman was arrested and deputies said they found what appeared to be marijuana and methamphetamine on him.

Heck was being held Sunday night in the Pulaski County Jail on $100,000 bond.
