Jefferson City home considered “total loss” after fire

A Jefferson City family lost its East Miller Street home to fire Saturday morning.

Assistant Chief Tim Grace told ABC 17 News the fire started in the back of the home in the 1400 block of East Miller Street around 6:30 a.m. It was ruled accidental, but an exact cause was not determined by Saturday night.

Responding fire crews had to rescue two children from a first floor roof of the home.

The fire had spread from a back bedroom to the front of the house. Crews said they had the blaze under control within about 20 minutes.

Three people were taken to local hospitals and later released. The American Red Cross met with the family Saturday afternoon and provided the mother and four children with clothing, according to a news release.

Damage estimates for the fire were not available Saturday night.
