Police investigate homicide in Holts Summit

Mid-Missouri authorities have identified a homicide victim as Jessica Murafetis, 44, of Kansas City.

Holts Summit police said Thursday afternoon they were investigating Murafetis’ death, after her body was found in a gas station parking lot.

Murafetis was found about 11:30 a.m. Thursday behind the Exxon station at 120 E. Simon Street.

Police said she is white, between 40 and 50 years-old and has long brown hair. She was wearing a red shirt from a towing company in Kansas City, along with green United States Marine Corps jogging pants.

Police cleared the scene about 4:45 Thursday afternoon. They have not given out any information about the cause of death.

The autopsy for Murafetis was scheduled for Friday. However, due to the frozen condition of the body it was moved to Saturday.

ABC 17 News confirmed Friday that Murafetis was not an employee of the towing company in Kansas City that was on her shirt.

ABC 17 News found that Murafetis has had some run ins with the law; landlord complaints, breach of contract, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

Holts Summit police told ABC 17 News that they are the lead investigative unit in this case but are receiving help from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jefferson City Police, and the Calloway County Sheriffs department.

Police told ABC 17 News it does not appear anyone tried hiding the body.
