Popular antique mall in Columbia could be closing soon

A popular antique mall in Columbia could be closing soon, depending on a city board. The Marketplace is located just west of I-70 on the Business Loop across from Cosmo Park. It has been home to some 150 local vendors for 12 years, but it could close if the owner decides to let a plumbing business move in.

Vendors do not get a say in the move. The Marketplace owner, Ron Sterchi, is waiting to hear from Columbia’s board of adjustment. He has filed for a conditional use permit, which would allow Ferguson Plumbing and Supply use the building.

The board is scheduled to vote on the permit February 11. If it is denied, the plumbing business will have to find another location. Sturkey told ABC 17 News he hopes a big company like Ferguson will help Columbia.
