Capitol City Cinema prepares for grand opening

Plans for a new theater in downtown Jefferson City continue as volunteers get ready for the next month’s grand opening.

Capitol City Cinema will be a theater whose board members hope to be an upscale location for the viewing of independent, foreign, and documentary films.

“It’s coming up. We’re getting some things put together. We have a few chairs left to put together, but we’re getting pretty close,” said Cinema board member Rebecca Gordon.

Supporters have spent the past few months fundraising, campaigning and planning for this new theater.

They say it will be the source of entertainment that Jefferson City has really been asking for.

“People have been looking for something like this to really enjoy,” said Gordon.

The Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce, City Council, and Convention and Visitors Bureau have all backed this project saying the location in the heart of downtown will attract both locals and visitors to the area.

“You have the opportunity to get some dinner, do some shopping, and then go hang out at the cinema,” said Chris Wilson of the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Cinema will seat 50 and will have showings every Friday and Saturday night.

An exact opening date hasn’t been set, but the board says it is expected to open late February or early March.

The Cinema is located at 126 East High Street in Jefferson City. Click here to view its webpage.
