Search continues for new Jefferson City Administrator

Jefferson City may be one step closer to having a new city administrator.

The city will stop accepting applications for the job by the end of Friday’s work day.

Next week, the city’s human resources department will eliminate applicants that do not meet minimum requirements.

In two weeks, the city’s search committee made up of community members will decide who it would like to interview.

Interviews will take place in December and possibly January.

Interim City Administrator Drew Hilpert says there long process because it is such an important job.

“They’re in charge of all the city staff and all of the department heads report to him,” said Hilpert. “He has to prepare a budget to the mayor. The mayor may tweak it and then it goes on to the council. Certainly he is in charge of the budget and making sure we end up on target.”

The former city administrator, Nathan Nickolaus, was fired in September.
