Demolition underway at Columbia Regional Airport to make way for new terminal

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Demolition started Tuesday at the Columbia Regional Airport to make way for a new terminal. 

The demolition of Hangar 350 is expected to last 45 days. Grove Construction is contracted for the demolition.

Trevor Barnes, the project manager for Grove Construction says crews will recycle all the steel from Hangar 350.

On Tuesday, crews plan to preserve a steel beam from Stephens College and a walkway inside the hangar.

The demolition will make room for the new COU terminal. The terminal is expected to cost about $26.6 million. The project will be financed by bonds from passenger facility charges and hotel tax revenue.

The terminal is expected to be ready for flights by the end of summer 2022.
