Jefferson City police investigating armed robbery

Police in the capital city are investigating an armed robbery Monday night.

Officers were called to the 1000 block of Elizabeth Street around 11 p.m. for a report of a robbery. The victim told police he went to meet someone he knew at an apartment when the suspect came up to him, struck him in the face with a gun and demanded money.

The 41-year-old victim told officers he handed over money then fled the apartment and called police. He did not require medical attention for his injuries.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and detectives are following several leads.

They say there is a suspect in the case, but anyone with any information is asked to contact Jefferson City police or call CrimeStoppers at 573-659-TIPS.
