Jefferson City Correctional Center inmate indicted for murder of cellmate
A Cole County grand jury indicted a Jefferson City Correctional Center inmate with first-degree murder Wednesday morning.
Terry Volner, 24, is accused of beating his cellmate, 67-year-old Jose Benitez, to death in the maximum security prison back in July.
The Missouri Attorney General’s Office says they will seek the death penalty against Volner.
Prosecutors believe Volner killed Benitez “for the purpose of receiving money or any other thing of monetary value from the victim.”
Volner was serving time in prison another murder in Wright County in 2012.
His arraignment date has not yet been set.
