Man killed in Miller County car crash

One man is dead and a woman was injured following a single-car crash in Miller County Wednesday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Alexander C. Benke, 21, of Centertown, was driving northbound on Highway 87 around 11:45 a.m. Troopers say Benke failed to handle a curve and traveled off the left side of the road and hit a mailbox.

Benke’s car came back on the road then went off the right side of the highway, hit an embankment and overturned.

Benke was transported to Lake Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A passenger, Juliann Rockers, 83, of Centertown, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol says Benke was not wearing a seat belt.
