Stadium Blvd. construction to close lanes

Construction crews will close the westbound ramp from Stadium Boulevard to Interstate 70 from Monday night through Tuesday morning, then again Tuesday night.

The closures are for the $12.9 million diverging diamond interchange project. This improvement will not only be safer, but also allow traffic to flow more easily.

“It’s more a kind of traffic need and it’s a need that’s come about and it’s time to put it in,” said Charles Sullivan with the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Sullivan tells ABC 17 the major safety improvement from this interchange will be no more waiting to turn left. With that comes traffic on the overpass driving in what will seem like the wrong side of the road.

This upgrade will add sidewalks, outside lanes and retaining walls.

On Monday, work was done on the southwest outer roads at Stadium Boulevard, along with the widening of ramps at Bernadette Drive and Stadium Blvd.

Monday and Tuesday nights, construction will include mostly concrete work on the westbound south outer road and southbound Stadium Blvd.

To avoid extra traffic, there are alternative routes available for drivers. If driving westbound on I-70, drivers can take the westbound interchange. If driving eastbound, take the West Boulevard exit and access either Providence Road or come back through Clinkscales Road.

The project is on schedule and is expected to be completed by the end of November.
