Authorities: Chad Rogers died of natural causes

Authorities have finished their investigation into the death of a former Jefferson City youth pastor.

Affiliate KMBC-TV reports the Liberty Police Department has determined that there was no foul play involved in the death of Chad Rogers.

The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office said Rogers died of natural causes and there were no signs of foul play.

WDAF-TV reports the coroner determined Rogers died due to causes stemming from a valvular heart disease. His father, Greg Rogers, said Chad had a heart defect since birth and doctors were aware of his heart murmur, but never put any limitations on him.

Rogers was reported missing after he went for a run on July 22 and did not return. Community members and law enforcement spent four days searching the area for him.

He was found inside a portable bathroom.

Rogers was an avid runner and the former youth pastor at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City. He had recently moved back to the Kansas City area with his wife and 1-year-old son.
