Columbia construction continues to boom
There are questions about whether Columbia can keep up with its rapid growth.
Developments like Aspen Heights, The Domain, and another Brookeside apartment complex are dotting the landscape right now, and there are only four city inspectors to keep up with all the work.
Columbia city planner Steve MacIntyre says that as long as building permit applications pass codes, they can be built. There are no caps or quotas as to how many apartments or stores are allowed in Columbia.
He also says the number of building permits has been steadily increasing since 2009, which is a good thing since much of the city’s budget comes from sales tax.
