Dog shot during fake burglary report

A Jefferson City woman was arrested Sunday night after she called in a false police report about a burglary at her home.

Charlotte Morehouse called police, claiming a man named “Joel” was breaking into her home. She told dispatchers she left the house for her safety.

When officers arrived on Liverpool Street, they learned the man breaking into the home was actually her husband. He was on his way to work.

A 75 pound pit bull charged officers when they got to the house. One officer was forced to shoot at it to subdue it. The dog died later at a local vet.

In a news release, JCPD said an argument happened before Morehouse called 911. No one named “Joel” was at the scene and no burglary had taken place.

Morehouse then admitted she had lied about the burglary and was arrested.
