Jefferson City competitive baseball team wins second World Series title

The Mid-Mo Express baseball team came home this weekend as two-time USSSA World Series Champions.

But after 319 wins, the team’s journey is coming to an end.

It took 10 athletes and six years together to win two World Series championships.

“They make movies about the stuff that happened,” said Jason Hirschvogel, team coach.

Most notably, the last game this group ever played together clinched their second World Series title.

“You think us winning 12-11 and into extra innings, you would think with a score like that there might be a lot of errors and whatnot, but itwasn’t. It’s just flat hitting the baseball,” Hirschvogel said.

The game turning into a total slug fest.

“We work hard a lot, Practice a bunch and I’ve been playing with these guys for a long time, so it feels really good winning our last game,” said first baseman Matthew Damf.

High school is now the next step for these boys and, unfortunately, not all of these athletes will be walking the same halls — a bittersweet thought for all teammates, even those who’ve been there just one season

“It was a great experience with them because it was my first one and last year playing competitive. I think it was a great way to end it with them especially,” said AJ Stubblefield, Mid-Mo Express first baseman.

Now the players on Mid-Mo Express are getting ready to step up to the plate in high school.

“When everything was said and done there is a true passion here. We are like family. We’ve been together so long and everyone loves one another and it’s not all roses all the time. At the end of this it was nothing but hugs all around and tears of joy and pretty excited,” said Hirschvogel.
