Route Z overpass to reopen Friday afternoon

The new Route Z overpass is set to open to traffic Friday afternoon, three months after the project began.

The Missouri Department of Transportation says the overpass will open around 4 p.m. Friday. The westbound ramps from I-70 to Route Z have already reopened.

The eastbound ramps opened to traffic in early June, almost two months ahead of schedule.

The new overpass and interchange are just one element of a larger project to improve Route Z in Boone County.

Additional projects include resurfacing Route Z from I-70 to St. Charles Road, adding shoulders and building a roundabout at the intersection of Route Z and St. Charles Road. St. Charles Road at Route Z remains closed for construction of that roundabout.

The overall Route Z project is designed to improve safety and accommodate increasing traffic due to the opening of Battle High School.
