University of Missouri dormitory rapist sentenced to two life sentences

The suspect in a 1999 rape case on the University of Missouri campus was sentenced to two life sentences Monday.

47-year-old Marvin Jones had pleaded guilty in May to charges of forcible sodomy and forcible rape for a 1999 rape.

On October 16, 1999, the University of Missouri Police Department investigated a rape at the Gillett Residence Hall on campus.

In November of last year, police said they had received a “significant lead” in the case from the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crime lab and arrested Jones.

Jones was required by law to provide a genetic sample after a 2010 sexual misconduct conviction.

He was charged with two counts of forcible sodomy and one county of forcible rape.

The victim appeared in court Monday to testify during the sentencing hearing.

A Boone County judge sentenced Jones to two life sentences to be served consecutively and one concurrent life sentence.
