Reporter/Sports Anchor

ABC 17 News is looking for someone who wants to help grow the station’s news product while growing their own career. The company needs a nightly REPORTER/SPORTS ANCHOR. The right candidate will be excited to join an energetic team of journalists who remain on the cutting edge of this constantly changing field.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Reporter/Sports Anchor’s duties will include gathering information, shooting video, writing and assembling stories for nightly newscast, producing the sports portion of a newscast, assisting with a weekly sports magazine show and anchoring. Duties also include working with management of the station’s news website and other online ventures. The successful candidate will be expected to function within the framework of a research-driven news department that emphasizes source cultivation, enterprising and breaking news. Employee must have the flexibility to work in the modern newsroom and could be called upon to beat report, produce, web edit, etc.

SKILLS: The right candidate must be a strong writer, have good organizational skills and superior news judgment. He/she will have an eye for video storytelling and an understanding of the elements that make a live television show more watchable. The candidate must work well under pressure, work well with other people and meet strict deadlines.

HOURS/SCHEDULE: This is a full-time position scheduled Wednesday through Sunday from 2:00pm – 11:00pm with flexibility required by the employee.

EDUCATION: A college degree in journalism, communication or a related field is preferred. Previous newsroom experience is a plus.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The position will require operation of a company vehicle or a personal vehicle for business use. Candidate must pass a drug test, background check, and MVR check.
