Missing Maries County woman found alive

A woman who had been missing since tubing on the Gasconade River Monday has been found alive.

The Maries County Sheriff’s Office says 34-year-old Penny D. Curtner was found Wednesday. She was able to walk to a campground after being lost in the woods.

“I’ll be honest, I was water searching when dispatch contacted me and advised me that she was here. At that time we were more than likely expecting a body recovery rather than rescue ,” said Sheriff Chris Heitman.

The Sheriff’s Office says Curtner had minor injuries that were treated before she was released to her family.

Her family had told authorities she was last seen around 3:30 p.m. Monday floating on the river alone in a black and green tube.

According to the Sheriff’s office, her family and friends had not been able to contact her.

The Maries County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Vienna Fire Department were involved in the search for Curtner.
