Police end manhunt in northern Boone County

Police have ended a three hour long manhunt near Sturgeon, after a K9 and aerial search of the area failed to turn up any of the two missing suspects.

The men are wanted for a burglary that happened Monday afternoon in the 21400 block of Highway 63, just about 2 miles south of Collier’s Junction.

One man, 17-year-old Aidan Murphy, bonded out after being taken into custody when deputies and troopers found him with a white Ford SUV used in the crime at a restaurant.

Murphy was booked into the Boone County jail Monday and could face misdemeanor charges of stealing and possession of burglary tools.

A man working on landscape at the victim’s home noticed the SUV pullup the half-mile long driveway and the three men get out and start taking tools. He told ABC 17 News he confronted them and then chased them off the property.

The man wished to remain anonymous since two men were still on the run. He also said Murphy threatened him and officers at the scene, telling him “I know where you live … I’ll be back.”

The resulting search was centered near Highways 63 and 22 near Sturgeon. Police said the two men took off running through a field and into brush piles.

Boone County deputies said Sturgeon High School was briefly on lockdown Monday afternoon because the School Resource Officer was the first responding deputy.

The active search ended around 3:30 p.m. when deputies said the trail ran cold.
