Woman says her two teen daughters were hit in south Columbia shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The mother of the two teenage girls shot Wednesday night in south Columbia described the attack as a drive-by shooting.
The mother said her 13-year-old daughter was shot in the shoulder and mouth, causing her to swallow a bullet. She remained hospitalized Thursday waiting for reconstructive surgery. The girl's 16-year-old sister was grazed by a bullet and has been released from the hospital.
Police were called to the 1800 block of Juniper Drive a little after 11 p.m. on a report of shots fired.
The Columbia Police Department later said in a news release that officers found the two juveniles with gunshot wounds when they got to the scene.
A neighbor and witness at the scene told ABC 17 News that he heard multiple gunshots from what he thought were two guns.
Police said no other injuries were reported but they have released no other details, saying the investigation is ongoing.
CPD Sgt. Kim German said at the scene that the department had limited suspect information and a vague vehicle description.
