US Postal Service discuss reduced hours

ThetownofHuntsville met to discuss the future of its post office.??

Across thecountry,the U.S.Postal Serviceis closingorreducing hours to save over half a billion dollars in the coming year.??

Residents didn’t hide their frustration as more than 60 people attended the meeting.??

APostal Servicerepresentativeannouncedthe tentative decision to reduceHuntsville’shours of operation.

The Huntsville post office will be open six hours a day Monday through Friday and three hours in the morningSaturday.??

“The plan provides theframeworkto achieve significant savings for the organization but also a reasonable solution for local communities. That plan keeps existing post offices open,” says Cindy Bolles,aU.S.Postal Servicerepresentative.??

She explained that over the past seven years the postal service has seen a27 percentdrop in use across America.??

To battle the issue locally a survey was sent out to over 11,000 people in Huntsville.??

Only30 percentof peopleresponded,voting out of five choices to shift the hours of operation out of the four choices.??

RandolphCounty ClerkWillEllisis a leader in the fight to keep the post office the way it is.??

“I believe the post office had already had their minds made up exactly what they were going to do. Unfortunately the questions that were asked from everyone didn’t get straight answers that were needed,” Ellissaid.??

Once thePostal Servicemakes its final decision it will post a letter on Huntsville post office door for a week.??

Thirty days after thatnotice,changes will go into effect.
