Mendoza earns final spot in Royals rotation
Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost announced Tuesday that Luis Mendoza will be the team’s fifth starter.
Lefty Bruce Chen will move to the bullpen.
The decision had to be fairly simple for Yost. Mendoza allowed just one run in 11 innings over three spring appearances, while Chen surrendered 13 runs and 16 hits in 13 2/3 innings covering four outings.
Chen is the second member of last year’s starting rotation, joining Luke Hochevar, that Yost has moved into the bullpen.
