Cyber Crimes Cops Lose Funding

Cyber crimes task forces across Missouri are out of money. Now it is up to state lawmakers to find a solution. the funds for such organizations ran out last June, and lawmakers said Monday, help could be on the way. Lawmakers are reviewing a bill that would give cyber crimes task forces about $3 million over the next ten years. The bill’s sponsor says this should be one of the top priorities of the session. He says these crimes are becoming more common, and it does not make sense to cut funding. Ronald Schieber (R)-Kansas City says, “we don’t know what’s going to happen going forward. There’s only $250,000 put into the task force in the budget for 2013; the governor proposed nothing for 2014.” Lawmakers say if they do not get money to the task forces across the state, they will be out of business. They say very few law enforcement officers have the same skill set as cyber crimes officers.
