Tracking the potential for an overnight freeze

WEDNESDAY: A chilly air mass is in the process of working its way into Mid-Missouri. Winds out of the northwest are continuing to push it into the area. That cool air will keep highs in the upper 40’s to some low 50’s, even with sunshine returning this afternoon. Winds will gust up to 30 mph, so it’ll be another good day to avoid outdoor burning as dry as it still is.

TONIGHT: If you were trying to get a head start on the garden this year, you’ll want to bring the plants in or cover them up tonight. Lows will fall into the upper 20’s without cloud cover to help us out.

EXTENDED: After a cold start, we don’t improve a whole lot, but we will shed the breezy conditions. Highs tomorrow will still top out near 50 with continued sunshine. That high pressure will slide east, turning our winds more southerly. That will help warm us into the low 60’s on Friday. We keep with the warming trend into the weekend, with the low 70’s making a return Saturday, and the middle 70’s by Sunday. It’ll stay pretty mild to start next week with the 70’s sticking around, and not big systems to push them out. Rain holds off until the middle of next week.
